PIZZA CALVINO

To conclude the events marking our tenth year of life, Lingua Libera Tutti has organised a meeting to take place in Perugia on Tuesday, 5 December 2023 at the agriturismo Il Corniolo.

There, our highly-qualified pizzaiola Giada Peluso will prepare pizzas named after Italo Calvino, the extraordinary 20th-Century author, the centenary of whose birth (1923-1985) we are remembering this year and whom we hope to honour in this way. Giada will prepare pizza Marcovaldo, pizza Barone rampante and pizza Visconte dimezzato for us. You will discover, along with us, a literary flavour that smacks of humour, fantasy and reflection. Needless to say, to accompany the great food, there will be toasts with wines from the Cantina sociale di Bettona, beer and homemade sweets.

Since Calvino loved to find inspiration in the combination of shapes and figures to create his stories, at the agriturismo, there will also be a pack of Tarocchi cards: we can uncover one or more cards and learn how the writer described them. The reading is composed of interpretations, not to be read believing everything but read recognizing conventions, symbols, trying to discover the underlying meaning. There will also be some of Calvino’s books available, so whoever wishes to can read or listen to some of his pages.

There is parking at the agriturismo, a lovely room with a fireplace and a kitchen where we can watch Giada preparing the pizzas, always a treat to see … An occasion to talk together both for our students and for our Italian friends.

Also, since it is close to Christmas, we’ve thought of putting a box on the table where anyone who wishes can leave some money to offer a pay-it-forward Italian course (Italiano sospeso, like the Neapolitan custom of caffè sospeso) from all of us to some student who might need it during the coming year. A Christmas gift that we will offer to someone who wants to learn more but, alone, doesn’t have the means to satisfy that desire.
